ROYDAN Enterprises, Ltd. Announces Leadership Change as Founder Dan Hornung Prepares to Retire

ROYDAN Enterprises, Ltd., the developer of Bloodhound® and NexTask™ software products, is pleased to announce an upcoming leadership change as company founder Dan Hornung prepares to retire from the business.

Current President and CEO Dan Hornung founded ROYDAN Enterprises, Ltd. in 1980 when he began working with local businesses in the Manitowoc, Wisconsin area to help them automate their accounting systems. This work led to the development of Bloodhound® Software, a database application designed for use by the accounts receivable industry. In addition to Bloodhound®, Roydan develops a number of other applications, including their NexTask™ contact center solution, web-based applications, and other custom applications.

Hornung’s first step in succession planning came in 2021 when he sold the business to an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP), making ROYDAN an employee-owned company. The succession plan continues today with the selection of Barry Phetteplace to succeed Hornung in the role of President of ROYDAN. Hornung will remain in the position of CEO as he prepares to retire from the company over the next several months.

New President Barry Phetteplace was previously CTO of Censis Technologies, where he led the R&D, DevOps, and IT/Security teams. Before joining Censis, Phetteplace held several key leadership positions in R&D at Blue Yonder. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and a master’s degree in Engineering Management from the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

“I am thrilled to welcome Barry as my successor,” Hornung states. “With his previous leadership experience and extensive background in software engineering and development, I am confident that he is the right candidate to continue ROYDAN’s legacy together with our hard-working group of employee-owners.”

Phetteplace will begin his tenure as ROYDAN’s President on September 3^rd. Reflecting on his new role, Phetteplace shares, “I am excited to get to know the ROYDAN team and work together to continue building upon the solid foundation left behind by Mr. Hornung. I am also looking forward to connecting with the ROYDAN customer base, because I’m deeply passionate about designing and developing products that prioritize customer needs.”

NexTask is a flexible contact center software solution built on the well known Twilio Flex platform. ROYDAN Wishes Employee Bill Rick a Happy Retirement

ROYDAN bid a fond farewell this month to a long-term employee now headed for retirement.

Bill Rick, Systems Administrator with ROYDAN, retired from the company on May 31, 2024 after 29 years of service. Bill joined the team in 1995 after serving 20 years in the United States Air Force as a radar technician.

Bill was instrumental in supporting the hardware and networking needs of ROYDAN’s customer base during his time with the company. At the office, he’s a well known jokester whose antics will surely be missed by all.

A celebration was held in Bill’s honor on May 23rd to mark his incredible 29 years of service.

We wish Bill all the best in his well-deserved retirement! He will be missed!

ROYDAN Welcomes Aaron Reel to the Team

ROYDAN is pleased to welcome Aaron Reel to our Customer Success Team!

Aaron joined Roydan as a software support specialist on April 1, 2024. As an entry level worker in IT, he is excited to start his career with Roydan.

Prior to Roydan, Aaron was working general construction with Reel Builders. He worked there throughout his education under his uncle who owns the business. The two of them worked on remodels and new construction, including roughing in a new house this past winter.

Aaron graduated summa cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in the spring of 2023 with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science – Software Engineering.

Aaron was born and raised in Manitowoc, which he continues to call home. He is an avid outdoorsman and spends most of his summer fishing, including an annual fishing trip to Canada in pursuit of the elusive 50 inch muskie. As the weather cools he puts on camo and gets back into the woods. He enjoys upland bird hunting at his hunting cabin in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest north of Crandon, along with deer and turkey hunting.

Aaron also enjoys keeping his mind active trying to find anything new to learn. His favorite subject is history and he always tries to read a handful of books every year. He says it’s a great way to stave off boredom during a slow hunt and that is where he does most of his reading. (He recommends “Last Boat Out of Shanghai” by Helen Zia and “A People’s History of the United States” by Howard Zinn.)

Another interest of Aaron’s is video games. It is a great way for him to keep in touch with his friends that have moved away since graduation. He enjoys playing rogue-likes and strategy card games, especially in the winter months when he dares not try any of his outdoor hobbies.

Aaron said getting to see how Bloodhound fits into a nationwide network and being a piece of that puzzle is going to be a rewarding part of what he strives to do here at Bloodhound. Please help us welcome Aaron to the Bloodhound team!

Bloodhound Partners With Matrix Imaging Solutions

Bloodhound recently added Matrix Imaging Solutions to their team of integrated industry partners. Matrix provides industry-leading digital-first solutions plus full-service printing services to the accounts receivable industry.

Matrix’s suite of print and electronic mail services includes e-solutions, document and data processing services, mailing, printing, postage, and information services. In addition, their focus on compliance through their SOC 2 Type 2 certification, as well as HIPAA and HITECH compliance make them a dedicated strategic partner.

Bloodhound and Matrix will officially launch their new partnership to the Bloodhound customer base with an informational webinar to be held on June 19, 2024.

Bloodhound Welcomes Customers for Annual Open House Event

We were thrilled to welcome many of our customers to our annual Open House event November 6-7, 2023.

While this event has traditionally been an annual event, the company chose to forego the event in recent years due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. It made the return of the event particularly special this year, since the last one was held in 2019.

The event kicked off Monday evening with a happy hour social at a local microbrewery. Then on Tuesday, customers gathered at Bloodhound headquarters to meet the Bloodhound team and learn more about the new software offerings available.

Sessions were held to introduce customers to NexTask™, Bloodhound’s new omni-channel communication suite, as well as to explore other topics of interest such as multi-factor authentication and the Bloodhound API.

We enjoyed reuniting with old friends, welcoming customers we haven’t had the pleasure of meeting in person before now, and showcasing some of our latest developments. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!

ROYDAN Holds Annual Employee-Owner Celebration

ROYDAN took time out of the busy work day on September 12th for their annual employee-owner celebration. The company plans the annual event to commemorate becoming an employee-owned company. Originally founded in 1980 by previous owner Dan Hornung, ROYDAN has been an employee-owned organization since 2021.

The day of celebration was filled with a variety of activities, including educational sessions with the ESOP trustee and board members, a delicious lunch, games, team-building activities, and a happy hour social. ROYDAN also took time to acknowledge employee Bill Rick for being the first employee-owner to achieve fully vested status.

Perhaps one of the most important events of the day was the fact that ROYDAN successfully gathered all of their employees in person for the event! With many employees working from home, some of them even from out of state, it is a rare occurrence these days to have all employees in person. Photos like the one above were definitely needed to commemorate the occasion!

Bloodhound Sponsors Youth Baseball Team

Bloodhound Software is proud to sponsor a boys rookie baseball team through the Manitowoc Youth Baseball Association (MYBA). This team is comprised of 7-9 years olds.

The rankings are in and Bloodhound is ranked #2 out of 8 teams with a record of 4-1! They will be competing in the end of the year tournament at the end of July and heading into the tournament as the #2 seed.

Bloodhound’s own Ryan Manis is the assistant coach and says that the team is evenly balanced between kids entering second grade and third grade. According to Ryan, “We have been truly blessed to have a great team dynamic of work hard, focus and having fun!” He adds that the mission of their league is to ensure the growth of each individual athlete in all aspects and positions of baseball. “We continuously rotate our players into different positions and work hard in practice on team and 1 on 1 development.”

Our relationship with UpTime began when ROYDAN sought the services of UpTime for some special networking projects at our office. We were so pleased with the support we received from UpTime that we knew we needed to bring their services to our customer base. Although they are local to ROYDAN, UpTime is able to service businesses nationwide.

IT’s UpTime provides various technical services, whether you’re looking for equipment recommendations and purchases, additional security, or day-to-day technical troubleshooting and updates. Welcome Scott Johnson to the ROYDAN Development Team

We are excited to welcome Scott Johnson to our Development team! While his current projects include working on Bloodhound development and future design, coding hasn’t always been his main stage.

Scott spent 15 years traveling the world and performing as an opera singer. Additionally, his previous experience included working as an Assistant Artist Manager helping with logistics, travel, and booking engagements. He holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Southern California, a Master of Music from the University of Wisconsin, and a certificate in web development from FullStack Academy.

While he was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin, Scott currently lives in New Jersey with his wife, Bridgette and 3-year old son, Danny. He continues to enjoy singing, either solo or with his wife and is looking forward to singing with the Wheeling Symphony in West Virginia in February. When he isn’t singing, Scott loves gaming, football, baseball, and Body Combat.
